I heard that people near the reactor were literally melting away because of being so exposed. The HBO show kind of shows us how bad it was for people who were so closely exposed. It changed their bodies because of it.

I'm also aware it caused deformities in children, and caused a lot of different kinds of cancers in people. It makes me wonder if the radiation came all the way to the US. Scary to think.

I recall hearing that the people who were nearest the reactor, died from radiation poisoning within days to a week. Their skin was pealing off and scabbing over. Children were born with issues and deformities. I guess the Soviet Union also sent in soldiers to help clean up when cleaning robots broke down. So they willingly put their people in danger to clean things up.

I think the biggest issues stemmed from the initial disaster, the outcome and the aftermath. The fact that so many people died, and many in pain. Children born with health problems. To people dying later on with cancers.

I heard other stuff, like there are ghosts at Chernobyl. I also heard that they brought performers to calm people, which in turn caused them to contract radiation sickness. I guess it also caused mutant animals that were really badly deformed.

I'm not familiar with any horror stories. But I am familiar with the atrocity of that event, and the problems many people faced because of it. That in itself is the biggest horror story in my opinion.
